Angie Martinez Resigns From Hot 97 And Heads To Power 105.1

Yesterday the net was buzzing after radio legend Angie Martinez shared the news of her resignation from Hot 97 radio station after 15 years on the air. I was completely shocked. Angie Martinez is a female radio personality that I admire. So when I heard she was leaving I thought it was going to be for a different calling...lol..ummm nope!! It looks like Angie Martinez — “The Voice of New York,” as even President Obama calls her — isn’t going too far after all.

On Thursday morning (June 19), Clear Channel announced that Martinez would be joining the team at rival radio station Power 105. 1, in addition to airing on 103.5 The Beat in Miami. She’s set to host a new afternoon show, running fro 2 – 6 p.m in New York. Power 105 and Hot 97 have been fierce competitors in recent years, so the move is definitely unexpected.

Martinez announced her resignation on-air Wednesday, and that was followed by an Instagram post saying goodbye. The outpouring of reactions was immediate, with colleagues and artists like Q-Tip paying their respects.
“This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways,” she said in her farewell post. “Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future.”

The producer, model and TV personality will executive produce and host a new lifestyle show that launches next year. The as-yet-untitled series will feature Banks leading a team of lifestyle experts on a wide range of topics. “The fire to inspire women and help them to blaze new paths fiercely burns inside of me,” Banks said in a statement. “I’m excited to be partnering with Disney-ABC to usher in a new era of lifestyle, beauty and entertainment that will inspire women to be the CEO of their lives via honesty, humor and the newest tips and tricks without being intimidating or precious. To my fierce fam of future viewers: I can’t wait to shake up daytime TV together. I have a lot of information to give and still lots to learn. Let’s do it!”

The show promises to take on topics such as fashion, beauty, entertaining and individual enterprise. Banks will also welcome celebrities, “internet influencers,” experts and everyday people to share their own knowledge across various topics. The show will air from Los Angeles and will be produced by Disney-ABC’s Summerdale Productions along with Banks, and distributed by Disney-ABC Domestic Television. “With an extraordinary social media following and legions of fans built over her years on television, Tyra is more relevant than ever,” said Lisa Hackner, executive vp of daytime and syndicated programming, ABC Entertainment Group. “She is the ideal personality to infuse lifestyle content with fresh energy, humor, and the practical information the daytime audience craves.”

This marks Banks’ second daytime talk show series following The Tyra Banks Show, which ran from 2005-10. In addition, the former Victoria Secret angel has produced and hosted one of the longest-running reality shows on broadcast television with The CW’s America’s Next Top Model, which has aired 238 episodes and inspired 26 international versions.

The singer launched her personally-designed Adidas Harlem GLC sneaker and they sold out like hotcakes. According to the The New York Times, soon after Beyoncé performs a Pepsi-sponsored halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII, she will be featured in a new TV ad for the soft drink and her face will be on a limited-edition line of soda cans.

A limited edition Pepsi can developed in partnership between the beverage company and Beyoncé will first be seen in Europe in March 2013.

The deal will also find Pepsi promoting the Grammy winner's tour next year as well as the expected release of her new album sometime in 2013. What's more, the company will put money toward other creative projects of Beyoncé's, whether they have any actual connection to Pepsi or not.
