Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson was officially charged Wednesday in a domestic violence case, according to the Broward State Attorney’s Office.

The flamboyant football player is facing one count of misdemeanor domestic battery for allegedly head-butting his wife, reality show personality Evelyn Lozada, prosecutors said.

Johnson was arrested Aug. 11 at his home in Davie, where he lived with Lozada. They had been arguing over a receipt found in his car that showed the purchase of condoms. She had a neighbor call 911; arriving officers noticed a cut on Lozada’s forehead, according to the investigative report.
She was treated at a hospital and he was taken to the Broward County Jail. The Dolphins released him shortly thereafter.

Johnson was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning. He is expected to file a written plea of not guilty instead of appearing in court.

The charge is punishable by one year in the Broward County Jail, prosecutors said.

VH1 has decided to pull the upcoming Ev & Ocho reality show from their lineup due to Chad Johnson's arrest Saturday night following an altercation with his wife, Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada.

"Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series 'Ev and Ocho' from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it," VH1 said in a statement.

According to the police report, Evelyn says she confronted Chad after finding a receipt for a box of condoms. In the report, Evelyn goes on to claim that Chad head butted her and began to scream, at which point Evelyn reportedly ran to a neighbor's house.

Chad was charged for battery with a bond set at $2,500.

The Miami Dolphins have also cut Chad from the team following the incident.

VH1's eight-part series Ev & Ocho was set to air in September, and while wedding dress shopping in May, Evelyn told TheInsider.com that the spinoff will focus on their real-life wedding and relationship -- fights and all.

"What I've noticed with a lot of dating shows with couples, you don't really see the real. Everything's all great, and everything's peaches and cream, and for me and him, we're like an open book," she said. "We speak about everything. We're very controversial with the conversations we have, but we're also just very real as to the things we deal with. ... Maybe Chad will get cursed out a couple of times. Chad Johnson, a day after his arrest on suspicion of simple domestic battery, has been released by the Miami Dolphins.

The team posted a one-sentence item on its website saying, "The Miami Dolphins terminated the contract of WR Chad Johnson, the team announced today."
Officials said Johnson, a six-time Pro Bowl selection, was arrested Saturday night in front of his Davie, Fla., home after an argument with his wife, Evelyn Lozada, over a receipt she found for condoms.

Lozada allegedly told police that Johnson head-butted her during their argument. Police said Lozada had a three-inch laceration on her forehead.

Johnson, who was trying to make the Dolphins after a disappointing 2011 season with the New England Patriots, spent the night incarcerated and was released from a Broward County, Fla., jail at 1 p.m. Sunday after posting a bond for $2,500.

If convicted of a simple domestic-battery charge, which is a misdemeanor, Johnson would face a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. He could also be ordered to community service, probation or anger-management classes.

Johnson, who is 34 and entering his 12th season in the NFL, has been known for his playful personality and an ability to make big plays on the football field, leading him to be a central figure in the HBO reality series "Hard Knocks," which has been filming at the Miami summer camp.

This is Johnson's first known arrest since turning pro, although he was arrested in college for a domestic dispute.

Johnson and Lozada, who stars in VH1's reality show "Basketball Wives," were married in July. She was formerly married to NBA player Antoine Walker. Soon after their marriage, Johnson legally changed his last name from Ochocinco back to Johnson at the insistence of Lozada.
