CHARTWATCH: The Numbers Are In...

(Week Ending July 26th)

It is only fitting that in Beyonce’s 4th week of release, her album 4 (Columbia) places at #4 on the charts with an estimated 53,018 copies sold. She should be crossing the 500,000 mark any day now and earning herself another Gold certified album.

DJ Khaled has proclaimed “we the best” for years now, and his fifth studio album managed to further prove that point. In it’s first week of release, riding high off the chart-topping single “I’m On It” which features Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne, the album, We the Best Forever (Universal Republic), sold an estimated 51,778 copies, easily earning Khaled a Top 5 debut. The album’s next single “It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over” featuring Mary J. Blige, Fabolous, and Jadakiss, has officially hit the radio and has been garnering some spins as well as the song’s music video which was released last week.

The Bad Meets Evil duo of Royce Da 5’9” and Eminem come in at #9, up 2 spots from last week, with 29,344 albums sold. The video for Hell: The Sequel’s(Shady/Interscope) next single “Lighters” featuring Bruno Mars should be getting released very shortly since it was being filmed by Rich Lee about 2 weeks ago.

In the wake of Amy Winehouse’s tragic death earlier this week, fans and supporters came out in full force by purchasing the singer’s most famous album, Back to Black (Universal Republic) in large quantities. The album which was released several years ago sold an estimated 22,234 copies; a 1,830% increase from the week earlier. R.I.P. Amy.

G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam artist Big Sean dropped 6 spots in his album’s 4th week. He moved 14,561 copies, which is a 15% decline from the week earlier. His newest single “Dance (A$$)” has been getting major spins on both Urban and Pop radio, and with the release of the “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay” featuring Kanye West video coming any day now, Finally Famous will be seen on the charts for some time to come.

Holding it down for Hip-Hop and rounding out the Top 50 is Wiz Khalifa, at #40, whose Rolling Papers (Atlantic) sold 10,300 copies this week and officially pushed the Pittsburgh native over the 500,000 mark, making his debut Gold certified. Congratulations Wiz!

Dropping This Week: (7/26/11)

R&B singer Kelly Rowland is releasing her third studio album Here I Am (Universal Republic). Production is handled by a number of producers which include: Tricky, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Jim Jonsin, Rico Love, RedOne and more.
