A fight broke out backstage at the BET Hip Hop Awards tonight between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy that resulted in shots being fired .. sources at the awards tell TMZ.

According to our sources, Ross and Jeezy exchanged words backstage and started pushing and shoving each other. We're told BET security and bodyguards for each of the rappers eventually separated the two.

Our sources on the scene say that after the fight had been broken up, a member of Rick Ross' entourage pulled out a gun while in the parking lot and shots were fired. It is unclear if the man was arrested.

We're told Jeezy and Ross are still at the awards, which are being taped tonight in Atlanta and air next month.

It's BET Hip-Hop Awards weekend in Atlanta and everyone is ready to party!!! Rapper Young Jeezy celebrated his 35th birthday (Oct 12th) EXTRA early at Atlanta’s Bitmore Ballroom this past Thursday (September 27). All I have to say is....."Dammnnnn YOUNNNNG" Jeezy looked too fly in his all black suit. A lot of celebs came out to show Jeezy love! The Kang of the south T.I. was in the buiilding with his ride or die wife Tiny, Gucci Mane, Usher, Meek Mill, Lisa Wu Hartwell, Keke Wyatt and Kenny Burns were also in attendance. Whenever Jeezy parties in the city he shuts it down!! #ItsThaWorld baby!! (groupie moment)..lol.. The show is being tapped tonight and will air next month. Peep the pics below:

Mannnnnnnnnnn!!!!! I should have been there!! (tears).. Thank God for the internet! Although I wasn't there physically, I'm happy that I was able to see MY ELVIS ROCK the Barclays stage!! Jay-Z is BROOKLYN, and he proved that last night!! SC held down the show solo, but brought out hip-hop legend Big Daddy Kane to join him on stage. That was a good look especially since Kane played a major role in the start of his music career. You know Jay had to rep for his brother Frank White aka B.I.G which was pretty awesome! As I watched I felt BIG's presence, I'm sure he was smiling in heaven- "Like We Did It Brooklyn". Hovie baby also blessed the crowd with a new verse spitting;

Earlier this week Nicki hit up Twitter to reveal her birthday gift for Weezy, a $70,000 T-Rex cyclecar. The bright red 3-wheeler is light, weighing only 1,040 pounds. It reaches a maximum fast speed of 150mph and originally retails for $50,000. For an extra 20k Nicki added details to it including a message on the back which reads “Nicki Loves Tunechi.” The car was delivered to Wayne during his 30th birthday celebration in Hollywood on Thursday night. #dopetastic

Jay-Z's whirlwind through Brooklyn continues. In the same week that the Barclays Center opens to the public, Hov unlocked the doors to his brand new 40/40 Club for the first time on Thursday night.

The new 40/40, located in the sprawling confines of the Barclays is a unique twist on the Manhattan flagship location. The ambiance is the same, but the new digs are tailor-made for the arena with the Brooklyn Nets hardwood in full view for club patrons.

"I walked around here earlier and I just seen everybody busy and at work trying to finish up and it was a great feeling," Jay-Z told gathering press as he entered the 40/40 for its grand opening. "A guy stopped me in the hallway and said, 'Man this is a great thing for New York City." And that's what the whole thing was about."

Rihanna, Angie Martinez, QuestLove and Hov's close friends and family all attended the first party at the eye-popping club. The opening comes just a night before Jigga will christen the Barclays with an inaugural performance on Friday. The multiplatinum rap star will follow with seven more shows.

The Barclays features 101 luxury suites, four bars and lounge destinations, three clubs and of course Jay-Z's 40/40 Club and Restaurant. There will be eight retail shops as well. In the coming months, the multi-billion dollar complex will not only house the Nets, but also open its doors to an array of artists like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Green Day and Barbra Streisand. College basketball and boxing events will also bring fans through the door. Not since Ebbets Field, the Major League park which the Dodgers called home until they moved to Los Angeles in the late 1950's, has Brooklyn had an entertainment complex of this magnitude.
